Elton John’s Emotional Farewell: A Final Performance of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”

Elton John has officially completed his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ world tour in Stockholm, after 333 shows and nearly five years.

On Saturday night at the Tele2 Arena in the city, Elton John performed his final song of the farewell tour, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” Before singing, he took a moment to express his gratitude to the 45,000 people in attendance for their support throughout his career. He acknowledged that his 50-year musical journey had been filled with immense joy, and he owed it all to his fans. Elton John thanked them for purchasing his music in various formats and, most importantly, for buying tickets to his shows. He emphasized how much he loved performing live and how it had been the lifeblood of his career.

“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” was a significant track released in 1973, serving as both a single and the title track of Elton John’s seventh studio album. The song achieved considerable success, reaching the top ten on the charts in multiple countries.

Elton John has performed “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” live approximately 1475 times over the span of 50 years. It has consistently been the closing song of his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour, which began in September 2018. The tour covered North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand until March 2020 when it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Elton John’s hip injury. After a hiatus, the tour resumed in January 2022 and continued for the next 18 months. The final UK show took place at Glastonbury, where Elton John was joined by special guests. In May 2023, the tour officially became the highest-grossing world tour ever.
